Unpacks to a single WellSim-2.8\ folder holding the program, the
signing certificate and the manual. Unzip it anywhere — a USB stick is fine;
nothing is installed and nothing is written outside the folder. Double-click
WellSim.exe: a console window opens and the app appears at
localhost:3355 in your browser. Closing that console window
stops WellSim. Cases are saved as ordinary JSON in a cases\
folder beside the exe, so keep it somewhere writable — not in
Program Files.

The PostgreSQL boundary is gone — the server now has no runtime dependencies
at all. The export contract was reimplemented from a written specification,
with its formula-injection defence explicitly tested: a cell beginning
=, +, - or @ is neutralised
so a spreadsheet cannot execute it on open, while a negative number stays a
number rather than being mangled into text.
Nine MARCH defaults that were never the analyst's to set are now fixed rather than editable, and lift-gas SG appears only when the water well is actually gas lifted. The manual and the interface differ from 2.7; the physics does not — every verified answer matches.
The certificate is self-signed rather than issued by a commercial authority.
Until you install the included .cer, Windows reports that the
signature “terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted”.
That is the trust store talking, not a problem with the file — and the SHA256
above does not depend on it.
SmartScreen warns either way, for the same reason. To have Windows report the
signature as fully trusted: double-click the .cer → Install
Certificate → Local Machine → Place all certificates in the following
store → Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
